My path into counselling began when I stepped away from my career in marketing and events to become a volunteer counsellor with NSPCC Childline. I worked there for 6 years before deciding to take the plunge and return to university to complete a Masters in Counselling at Abertay.
Alongside my my private practice I also work as a counsellor at Cruse and Place2Be. In addition, I am a therapeutic bereavement worker at the Sunrise Partnership and run an alopecia support group in Aberdeen.

I am trained in pluralistic therapy, which means I will draw from a range of evidence based approaches guided by your goals, strengths and preferences. I offer a flexible and reflective perspective that focuses on what matters most to you.
My way of working is creative and collaborative, grounded in the belief that the therapeutic relationship can be a powerful safe space for healing, self understanding and growth.
Beginning therapy can feel uncertain, so I aim to make those first steps feel calm and supportive. I offer a warm, steady, compassionate space where you can take a moment to pause and begin to reflect upon what’s been happening, find ways to move forward and make positive change.

During our first session we will discuss what has brought you to therapy, explore any challenges and clarify therapeutic goals. From there we can look at different approaches which may help. Common approaches I may draw upon are
- Person Centered
- ACT and CBT
- Humanistic
- Mindfulness
- Narrative
You may decide that you would like counselling for a focused piece of work or longer term support to work through more complex issues.
In order to maximise the effectiveness of therapy, I believe regular reviews are important to assess what is and what is not working.

Anxiety and Depression
Bereavement
Relationship Difficulties
Identity and Self Esteem
Stress and Burnout
Life Changing Illness
Loss and Change
Life Transitions
Together, we can explore and honour what has been lost, making sense of what remains to reconnect with life in a way that feels genuine and possible.

I charge £65 per 50 minute session.
I am available to see you in person in Aberdeen city or online across the UK.
Please contact amandawrightcounselling@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question, I'd be happy to help. Please note that I do not offer emergency support, contact NHS 111 or the Samaritans on 116 123.
Counselling is generally up to 12 sessions of focused counselling on a specific issue. Psychotherapy is longer term work where we focus on more complex issues. We can discuss this as we go along or at one of our reviews.
I offer a 20 minute free introductory online session to see whether you think we could work well together. Email me to arrange an appropriate time.
We will schedule your appointments week by week. Most clients like to arrange the same day and same time for ease but this is flexible. We can discuss what suits your schedule best.
I understand that life can throw curveballs. You can cancel your appointment up to 24 hours prior to your appointment. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your scheduled time, I kindly ask that you make payment. I will try my best to reschedule your appointment but I can not guarantee availability.
